Friday, June 2nd – Ruysdael & Widmann

8:15 p.m. Grote Kerk in Velp

  • Wolgang Amadeus Mozart “Hunt” Quartet
  • Jörg Widmann “Hunt” Quartet
  • Jörg Widmann “Fantasy” for solo clarinet
  • Carl-Maria von Weber Clarinet Quintet in B flat major, Op.34

The Ruysdael Quartet takes center stage with their good friend and international star clarinetist, composer and conductor Jörg Widmann. This unique evening begins with Mozart’s upbeat “Hunt” Quartet. Here Mozart is playful, full of fresh air and jokes, yet with room for a slow movement full of depth and poignant beauty.
After this we will present Widmann’s interpretation of the hunt, his “Jagd” Quartet. This piece begins with a jolly horseback ride, but quickly slides into a nightmare…Widmann is clearly inspired by Mozart, but also by the incessant dotted rhythm of Beethoven’s seventh Symphony. Our poor cellist becomes the victim of the rider!
The program ends with a tasty dessert: the operetta-like Clarinet Quintet by von Weber. Widmann joins the Ruysdaelers on this fabulous joyride.
